About the Zoo
The Big Bear Alpine Zoo is where you’ll find animals that need rehabilitation. Their facility gives animals that have been injured or orphaned a safe place to stay and recover before they are released back into the wild. If they cannot make a full recovery, the Alpine Zoo offers them a permanent place they can call their own as well. This zoo is unique because it is only one of two alpine zoos in the USA. Most of the zoo’s creatures are from the local San Bernardino Mountains, so they feel right at home when they’re taken care of here.
Entertaining Exhibits
The Big Bear Zoo houses 160 animals that represent about 90 species. When you visit here, you’ll find a wide variety for you and your party to learn about. Some of the guests that inhabit the zoo include bears (like grizzly bears or black bears), cougars, wolves, and eagles. There are, of course, a variety of large and small animals. Not only do you get to experience the beauty offered at Big Bear, but by visiting the zoo, you get to learn about the wildlife that has inhabited the area for centuries. Other animals that are pretty popular to see are the snowy owl, snow leopard, red fox, arctic fox, and bobcats, among many others.
